This is a continuation of an old thread that won't be updated anymore. I can't be bothered with reposting everything, but the album where all of my screenshots showing my progress for the AMCWAS Project (a lot of them not originally included in my posts) can be found here.

I found the zombie dungeon i conquered earlier and turned it into an xp grinder. Higher level enchants, here I come!

2012-05-31_193121.png

It took me um, not sure, an hour or longer to do. It's a simple design that we discussed on the old forums, using a water elavator to lift the mobs up a shaft and then drop them down to near death. I've built this type of xp grinder before, using Keralis's tutorial on youtube.

I built a little brewery in my house so I can use splash potions of healing on the zombies. I have an infinite water source to easily fill up those water bottles as well as storage for potions, bottles and ingredients. I have one blaze rod left after crafting the two brewing stands, so I'm going to make fire resistance potion and return to the Nether to get some more.

2012-05-31_074945.png

After grinding at my xp farm until I hit a semi high number (64 in my case; I was too eager to get back to playing Minecraft to stay afk for too long :P I tried out my first big enchant on a diamond pick axe and...

2012-06-01_073600.png

I had hoped that level 44 would have yielded something awesome like Silk Touch or Fortune but, well, better luck next time. At least I'll get a lot of use out of that pick axe. I used up my remaining levels on some iron loot I got from the zombies. I got Fire Aspect I on a sword which is great fun. Nothing special on the other stuff; just Efficiency I and Unbreaking I stuff...

Worked more on my giant tree. I'm really glad I got my zombie farm going because the iron ingots they give me come in handy for all the shears I have to make to harvest leaves.

2012-06-01_101601.png

I also worked on a pathway to the barn, and am in the process of adding a wheat field. I had stacks of wheat seeds and still ran out.

2012-06-01_145617.png

I started work on another house for my little town but I need to take screenshots still. May wait until it's finished.

Other than that, I've just been running around harvesting materials.

I adore that tree!! It's magnificent! An Unbreaking III/Efficiency IV pickaxe is fairly common at level 44 - and it's not too bad - you'll cut through most blocks really fast and it'll last ages; so it's great for strip mining and/or digging huge holes in the ground :P I should know that - I've got plenty of experience with digging huge holes in the ground :)

Squeeee! Thanks! I'm really happy with the way it's looking. It's not quite done yet but it's aaaalmost there.

I am a dwarf and I'm digging a hoooo--oops, sorry. Anyhow, yeah, I suppose it is a good pick. Will come in handy when I finally decide to conquer that mountain and carve out some space for the temple and other buildings.

Woah, putting trapdoors on the glowstone is a really awesome way to make it look awesome! Oh, the things you can do with trapdoors. And I'm loving the tree and wheat farm; both look really natural, like they just grew there. Awesome work! Nice enchant, as well!

Thanks! Trap doors are one of the best things for adding details. I love them.

I've also used that technique for zombie farms in the past. I would have used it my one, but it would have meant creating this huge pipe in the sky, so I decided to suffocate them.
And I must say, I would love an Unbreaking/Efficiency pickaxe right about now. Unbreaking isn't good for anything alone.

My elevator is completely underground, so no unsightly weird glass tower thing for me. :) The entrance is basically just a hole in the ground with a ladder that leads to a staircase to the spawn room. 2012-06-02_160458.png

So, I visited my xp grinder again today and then my enchanting table...

2012-06-02_133138.png

2012-06-02_133151.png

Okay, this is awesome. I've never gotten Silk Touch before at all in any of my other worlds, ever. The additional two enchants on it are awesome, too.

As soon as I got my sexy new pickaxe I ran outside to nab some grass blocks. Grass blocks in survival!!! Sorry, I'm just really excited.

2012-06-02_133454.png

I took a trip to the Nether to set up a little nether wort farm, and gathered some more glowstone while I was at it...with my pickaxe of silkiness. :3

Funny that I got it today after seeing Gilbert's. I swear I'm not trying to copy lol, it just happened that way.

Hahaha. Hey, even if you were trying to copy, it's better than the original! And I love how wide-spread those enchantment levels in your table are in that pic. 13... 13... 47. Haha. I'm guessing your regular item drop from zombies is the iron shovel? Or do you just like making shovels? =P What'd you get for your other ten levels? Just curious. *Shrug.

It's funny to me that you save up levels until above 50. I always enchant at 50, just so that I get maxed-out.
And dammit! I also want a special pick. Lol.

I was trying to get more than fifty so I could get several big enchants at once, but I get lazy and stop. I just found out that levels aren't linear or whatever. I didn't even know that the more levels you have, the longer it takes to get higher. Does that make sense? I hope I'm saying it right. So I think from now on I'll stop at 50. Derp. Should have done more research.

Hm, I think I used up the remaining 10 levels on a sword and got Bane of Arthropods II or something, if I remember correctly. Too tired to log into Minecraft right now to check, sorry! The shovels are gifts from the zombies but I tend to go through them for flattening or shaping land, so can always use more!

Yeah, you said it right, but actually the levels are on a linear scale. It's based on 7n, according to this dude. So, say you graphed the levels to experience needed, you would have a straight line because the slope would be awesome, I mean, 7. The experience and levels are similar to those in Pokemon in that it does take more experience to level up as you get higher levels, but in Pokemon, it's exponential functions... My inner geek is showing...

Anywayyyys, haha, Bane of Arthropods II. Hm. I completely despise that enchantment. =P I kinda figured that about the shovels, but wasn't sure if you had a strange obsession or something. Haha.

BoA= Boring, Old, Add-on. Unless it's high enough and has sharpness/smite on it as well, then it's pretty worthless.

Yeah, and unfortunately, you can't even get Sharpness  or Smite on the same sword that has Bane of Arthropods. Fire aspect would be a nice one to have with it, though. Haha. BoA. Nice!

lol.... evertime I see "BoA" it reminds me of the time I played World of Warcraft .. "BoA" means "Bind on Account" in WoW terminology biggrin Heehee

Yeah ... Bane of Arthropods has to be the most useless Enchantment ever - I'm just glad I've never had it... I usually get smite or sharpness. I've only ever had Looting III once ... man, that was a good day smile

Ah, okay, thanks for the clarification about the leveling system, Gilbert! (lol wow I made a typo and put Glibert at first...)

I seem to have TWO Bane of Arthropods II swords. Dang it! So, I think I'll use one but throw the other in the lava ocean in the Nether. :/

And....I couldn't help myself. I really want another fancy diamond pick so I took yet another camping trip to my zombie xp farm.I kept flipping through the enchants but the highest I could find was 46 so I just went with it. Looky what I got!

2012-06-04_093400.png

I'll take it. :D Now I promise to stop doing major enchanting until after 1.3.

After that, I should have gone mining with that pick axe. But instead I went back to my Nether fortress. I needed more blaze rods, so I visited a blaze spawner. For the lulz I took several stacks of snowballs and tried my best to get a good screenshot.

2012-06-03_185403.png

I had used a fire protection potion and the stupid swirlies got in the way, but I think you can tell that that blaze was taking a beating from my snowball wielding fists of fury. Um, ignore the silly cluster of pumpkins and cobble. That was from when I first encountered the spawner. I panicked a bit. I cleaned that up after having my fill of blaze rods.

I harvested a bunch of Nether brick and took that back, then went back to the fortress again. This time I was prepared to go through the portal I made there, which puts me smack in the middle of an abandoned mineshaft.

I took some grass blocks and saplings with me (I don't really like being underground so having at least something from the surface makes me feel better) and lit up the chamber. Did a little exploring around. Found a lone skeleton, an even lonelier creeper. I also found a ravine I have yet to explore, as well as a spider spawner.

2012-06-04_160831.png

I checked F3 and apparently the mine is beneath the ocean. Once I explore more of the mine and some of that ravine, I may take a trip to the surface if I don't drown, and see what's around.

@daydrifter - to avoid the "stupid swirlies" in the future, go to the options screen and turn "particles" to Minimum - that should help you make better screenshots aww

Looks like you had some fun enchanting - I'm looking forward to 1.3 .. will be interesting to see how the enchanting system differs compared to the current version.

Ha! Glibert. Sounds like something a professor on the first day of class would call me. Haha.

Hopefully you took the curse of getting the Bane of Arthropods enchants away from me. I mean, hopefully not, of course. Hahaha.

That pickaxe is amazing! I'm jelly. Those pumkins and cobblestone was a little random until you explained it. You should have left them. Haha. A spider spawner? Are you going to do anything with it?

Well, if I did take the Curse of Spider's Bane from you Gilbert, that's okay. I seem to find cave spider spawners EVERYWHERE so maybe they'll come in handy.

I feel guilty (more like stupid) for not taking advantage of the other cave spider spawners I found (that were super close together) so maybe I'll attempt to make a grinder if I do find another one. I just, ugh, I hate those things. Even in ssp they kind of glitch through walls a bit. At least they do for me. Especially at a corner. I thought half slabs would prevent them from getting through but NOPE. I could even deal with the poison part if they weren't so damned small and jumpy.

Thanks for the info Zyrandar. I didn't think of that!

daydrifter- the trick for taking a great screenshot (in my opinion) is to let the screenshot come to you. If you've ever seen a picture of me fighting three creepers, it's just because I brought my finger up to the F2 button in time. Minecraft has a small delay when taking screenshots, and you can bring your finger back to the movement keys.

Personal experience makes me hate cave-spider spawners. I've never found a good way to farm them. If you do manage it, I would consider it a huge triumph! And may even steal your design...

I didn't end up finding another spider spawner near that one in my underwater mine so, I probably won't make a grinder with it. If I do try to make a cave spider farm in the future , it will most definitely be based on someone else's design anyway. If I find a design that works for me I'll definitely let you know about it. :) Thanks for the screenshot tips, too.

So, um, a little update.

2012-06-04_212304.png

I kept hearing a slime above me but couldn't find it. When I returned to my little base, if you want to call it that, this big guy was waiting for me. I got some slime balls out of him, which I'll probably use to make magma cream, and then fire resistance potion. Or maybe I'll save those for sticky pistons. I really should try to learn some redstone work, at least simple stuff.

Another noise I kept hearing was the sound of something walking on sand. I figured I might be close to the ocean floor and that I was hearing squid. I guessed right, and used ladders and cobblestone to build my way up to the surface.

2012-06-04_211306.png

2012-06-04_211733.png

I drifted around in a boat to get a look around and mapped the area. It seems to be a big ocean. I'm not sure about the rules about showing maps so I didn't include that. Not that there's anything to see on an ocean map, lol.

As far as learning redstone goes, you know how to make a compass. That's more than I know. Hahaha. Are you going to start clearing out down in your base for that slime chunk? Or are you just going to wait for them to randomly spawn?

I've never thought of using ladders to block the flow of water whilst trying to climb up something like that. Neat idea!

Hurray for giant maps of the ocean! Haha.

I'd advise clearing out the slime chunk and making a farm. I've done that recently in my old world and it's incredibly effecient. Maybe too effecient biggrin If you do decide to make a slime farm, I highly recomend that you rig it up so that you can either - kill them and their drops or XP/loot mode. Hope that kind of makes sense. You could probably lure them into a "kill chamber" using water canals and then fix a "lava blade" killing mechanicism or something. Oh gods above ... I sound like some kind of evil mastermind! "Now Mr Bond... prepare to meet your end ... you're now suspended over a shark-infested pool. If you escape that, you have to escape the laser tunnel of doom... and IF you escape that ... you'll have to contend with my pet cat tiddles. You really don't want him to get angry! Mwahahahhha!"

Nice touch with the evil laugh lol! Thanks for that, I've had a long day and it's nice coming home to a funny post. XD

Um, on a serious note, a slime farm would be a great idea. I've never made one before but I'm sure I can find some good tutorials around. Using water canals and a lava blade sounds like the kind of thing I can do. Think I'll try to set that up tomorrow.

I did do more exploring on the surface earlier and I feel stupid because the ocean isn't as big and empty as I thought. I forgot I had my view distance set to Tiny and upon changing it to Normal, some trees started to render up ahead. I went around in a boat mapping the area and there's a nice jungle that I find so pretty I couldn't stop taking screenshots. I really like this one.

2012-06-05_120732.png

I settled on the beach and plan to build a little hut on stilts. I started on something but I really don't like it. Oh and I tamed a cat! Kept seeing ocelots creeping at the jungle's edge and finally went fishing. My new kitty took six fish to tame, which seems like a lot to me. I don't recall dogs ever needing so much in bones. :/

2012-06-05_124437.png

The kitty doesn't have a name yet. I'll decide on one tomorrow I think.

This may sound like "cheating" but bear with me. If you know the 'general' area where the slimes spawn I think it's okay to follow along with =

"Zyrandar's Slime Farm Tutorial"

<dum dum dum!>

1) Write down the 'X' and 'Z' coordinates of the general area where the Slimes are spawning and make sure the 'Y' coordinate is below 40.

2) Now go to http://mcslimes.appspot.com/index.jsp

input the beowulf seed -221236380

in the box that reads: '... or enter central point and distance' enter the coordinates you've just wrote down and make the distance 128 just to be on the safe side. You should then see a grid of squares with coordinates on the top and sides; the grid shows you the exact location of slime chunks - the green squares.

2) Now that you know the exact coordinates of the slime chunk, dig a 4 block wide by 2 block deep canal all the way around the slime chunk.

example:

Y5fXW.jpg

The corner section

QHlmI.jpg

A straight section.

Note = Slimes can spawn on any spawnable block <check the wiki if you're not sure which blocks are spawnable or not> and in any lighting condition. I also highly recomend that you light up the slime chunk as the less hostile mobs there are in the vacinity the more a slime will spawn. So light up surrounding caves too. Water canals can be tricky - water travels 8 blocks on a horizontal plane... so in some instances you might have to use Signs to shorten the length of the canal. Don't worry about the 'dry' sections of the canal where the Signs are. Slime AI works like this: They pick a random direction to hop towards - usually the nearest wall - and they'll keep hoping even when they hit the wall. When they hop of the edge of the slime chunk and ito the water canals, the water will carry them to the nearest 'dry" point; at this point Slime AI says"Let's keep hopping in this direction" and they'll enter the next water canal and then the next one and so on. This way you can use water canals to direct the slimes anywhere you want: In my case I directed them into the middle of my underground base.

ykmbe.png

Small slimes will always die on inpact in my design - hence the slime balls. Medium and Big slimes take a little damage but not enough to make them split.

If you have any more questions about Slime Farms or you're struggling to get it to work I'll be happy to help smile

Don't feel too stupid; I've done some pretty dumb stuff concerning the render distance, as well. Haha. And mine could be considered worse as I tend to wonder where stuff went if my render distance ends up on Tiny. Hahaha.

Kitty! =D Name it Kitty.

Zyrandar you are so informative and helpful!!! Thanks! :D I'm going to try your method.

I didn't get around to the slime farm but after your post I hope to try making it tomorrow, or at least start on it. I'm not sure exactly where the slime chunk is to be honest, but I think I'll try to explore in the surrounding caves a bit more, light them up, and see if another slime spawns when I get back. I'm not sure if I want to use anything that shows me the slime chunk. I may change my mind later, but I think I'll try to make do without that first, see how it goes.

Lol Kitty. That's always an option. We'll see. :)

I only use that Slime Finder website after I've found a Slime Chunk - basically all I use it for is finding the exact "X" and "Z" coordiantes. This is especially useful for a full blown Slime Farm. If you - for example - dig out a 32x32 block by 5 block high area in the general vacinity of the slime chunk .. .you'll still get slimes to spawn. However - if you dig out the exact area where Slimes spawn .. you'll increase the effeciency of the Slime Farm. When I first built my slime farm = I had maybe 1 or 2 slimes spawn within one full Minecraft day - that's 20 Minutes. Now that I've dug out the exact area where the slimes spawn I get a dozen or more Slimes spawning every Minecraft day.

Is Rei's Minimap against the rules, because that totally has a slime chunk finder on it if it's not. Just my input. Haha. I don't work often with slime chunks, so I can't be of much help in this conversation.

Anywayyys, Kitty! =D

No. Rei's minimap isn't againgst the rules. I've used it myself in the past and I was thinking of re-installing it again. However - I didn't realise it had Slime Chunk functionality. Is that new? Or have I just never noticed it before?!?

I did consider using Rei's Minimap for this project but I decided against it. I feel that though it doesn't add any new blocks, it does make things way easier. It kind of feels like cheating to me. Don't know how new of a function showing slime chunks is but, yep you can do that. I can't remember how you find it in the menu but if you enable it, the chunks are highlighted red. If you enable entities it shows you individual slimes too, when they spawn.
