Little food stalls huh? Great idea! Liking the tunnel going up the balcony and the little fountain/nether portal looks fantastic too. I agree with the last picture - too much water spoils it. Sometimes being "minimalist" looks better.

Yeah, that's a lot of water on that portal. I love the dirt tower beside the fountain. It adds to the awesome. Haha.

So you guys agree; too much water. Oh the dirt tower is mostly being cleared up. There are other areas where the dirt will remain. I'll do some terraforming to make the hills look better and add lots of flowers and bushes and things. Need to play around in Creative to figure out some more designs for that stuff...

But um, I'm starting to get tired of building. I think it's time...to make a blaze spawner. I realize that they really do give you a lot of xp so, I've watched a few tutorials trying to decide which one I want to follow. Since I know nothing about redstone, I'm going to have to follow a single tutorial every step of the way. It looks like I need a lot of repeaters, redstone, pressure plates and sticky pistons, along with blocks and glass, of course.

I watched Etho's tutorial but I'm not sure if I'll go with that one. There's another tut I might go with. Not sure yet. Most of it doesn't look too hard, really. As long as I can follow everything.

Already did the first step: disabling the spawner. I literally spammed torches everywhere. Look at this mess!

So, going to read up some more on stuff, watch some tuts and start making it happen. :D Wish me luck!

I highly recommend using that tutorial Etho released. It works a treat. I use it myself in my single-player world. It's not very fast -- takes around 20 to 30 minutes to get around 400 mobs [if you want to get from 0 to 50 that is] so it's very much an AFK mob/XP grinder. When you use it [Brew up some Splash Potions of Damage too] remember to put graphics to "fast" turn off particles, lighting, etc .. basically turn everything to minimum as when you crush them and then kill them with the potion it will produce a LOT of lag.
Good luck on getting something up and running :)

The dirt tower comment was on the little seven block high one beside the fountain. Haha.

I think you need more torches. Haha. You can never be too careful around Blaze spawners. Good luck with that redstone stuff!

More torches!!! I think I ran out of room. XD I bet as soon as I start mining out some of those blocks the blazes will swarm me. I used up all of my slimeballs on sticky pistons so I'm going to have to do this without fire protection potion. I'll just take lots of golden apples and have a hidey spot when they spawn. And thanks! I'm going to need all the luck I can get, I think.

Go kill some Magma cubes for the Magma cream. I mean - it's not like they're super rare or ten times more annoying to kill than normal Slimes or anything [!] heehee - lot's of golden apples huh? I think I've only ever crafted one in the whole time I've been playing Minecraft. Come to think of it - I might have actually found it in a chest!

Magma creams are a huge pain in the butt. Usually if I do manage to spot one, it's swimming in a lava lake. Might go hunting for some but I'm not too hopeful.

Never crafted a golden apple? O: I suppose you just never felt a reason to. I could be wasting them but haven't died yet so I think they're doing their job.

EDIT: OOps, didn't see your post up there Zyrandar. Thanks for the tips about lag. I get quite a lot even with the zombies so I imagine that turning off particles and things would be a great idea for the blazes. Hmmm yeah, I probably will just go with Etho's. The other one I was looking at isn't as nicely organized, and requires a lot more repeaters.

No problem going afk. I try to use the time I'm grinding for Youtube videos or chores around the house or whatnot.

Maybe if you get hit by the Blaze fireballs enough, you'll develop an immunity. It wouldn't hurt to try. *Shrug. (Please don't take me seriously. Haha.)

But yes, golden apples should protect you quite well if you get enough of them. You can't leave some of the torches up when building the grinder?

If only you could become immune to fireballs xD.

Etho's method calls for filling a square of blocks around the spawner in a certain way to keep the blazes from spawning, regardless of light level, so I did end up removing most of those torches. As I figured though, I ran out of sticky pistons so...I need to go back to my future slime farm area and see if I can get more big ones to spawn.

I'd give you some of my Slime Balls if I could - I have a double chest full of them. I can get 2 and half to 3 stacks of slime balls from my slime farm in around 10 to 20 minutes. [Plus XP too]

I also have a double chest full of Blaze Powder and 2 double chests full of Blaze Rods :)

Too bad you can't trade with other players. Haha. So the way the blocks are positioned, you don't even need torches? That's pretty cool and convenient. Have fun getting slimes!

I'm so jealous! In the future I hope I have a slime farm as good as yours. Dang you have a lot of stuff!!!

I got my blaze farm running! I think I messed up some wiring somewhere since I think Etho says that there are pistons set up to push the items towards you and I don't see that happening, but other than that so far it's not too shabby. I turned particles to minimum and even shut off animations like smoke and fire so that's helping, but wow, getting quite some lag with so many blazes at once. And I even have some bad news. While clearing out the blocks around the spawner, I panicked when blazes started spawning immediately and placed a torch on top of the spawner.

Now this spawner is floating in midair, surrounded by blazes out for my blood. I think this is going to be my first death, guys...

EDIT: Yep, my first death. And I didn't manage to knock out the torch either! I messed up more of the wiring than I thought, and it's too difficult to figure out stuff when it's laggy so I broke my rule of staying on Normal all the time and switched to Peaceful.

Try building that blaze trap on Hard :)
ahhhhh sucks you've been having a hard time with the wiring etc. I've told you about Mojang implementing a way of inviting LAN friends into your Single-Player world? Well ... if they can get the coding etc figured out, I'd be more than happy to help you when 1.3 is released.

Oh boy. I don't think I'm ready for Hard. Maybe when 1.3 comes out, I'll start a world with large biomes on and keep it on hard.
But for this particular world full of very explodable and un-fire resistant wool, I'll stick with Normal. :) Or...I have been thinking of putting
it on hard for caving, then switching to normal when I'm in Merris.

I realized that my tiredness made me skip the end of the tutorial. So, there is more work to be done. Took a break from that for now though,
because I was eager to get back to Merris.

I'll just mention that when I was in my future slime farm area, I went off to do more caving and light up the surrounding area more. I found another abandoned mineshaft, or maybe just more of the same one? And came across TWO more zombie dungeons. Nothing of great interest in the chests (and each only had one of them). But
I nabbed all the mossy cobble. Took out another cave spider spawner, too.

When I found my way back in the ravine that would lead me to my little base, my cat from my vacation
home teleported to me. Man I hate that glitch. I must have been under my house, or very close to it. I took the cat back home and just now thought of a name. Cocoa!
Not very exotic, and it's not Kitty, but the cat does live in a jungle. I'll do what I've seen Zisteau do and put a sign with the cat's name on it.

Back to my latest progress, I've started work on the schoolhouse. I know I jump around a lot from project to project...it's a character
flaw of mine. Deal with it. B)
2012-06-16_083052.png

It's not finished, of course. I forgot to add slabs to the end of the roof on one side (just realizing this after seeing the screenshot lol). And I want to add a nice balcony area and some support so the house doesn't look like it's just...there. It looks funny by its lonesome. :/ I hope it looks better when the Town Hall and guard towers and other residences and things are added in.

Eh, Hard's not really thaaat hard. But I've never tried building a Blaze trap, so what do I know? Haha.

Kinda sucks that you died. There goes your invincibilty streak. But I'm not sorry for you because you didn't name your cat Kitty... Just kidding. Haha. Cocoa is a good name.

And I agree with Wartower! That building looks awesome.

I know, I'm no longer invincible. Oh well. Should make a little graveyard for all my deaths like you guys did. One of you did that. Or more? I can't recall at the moment. Should really look at the old forums if it's still up.

Kitty shall be my next cat! Especially if Cocoa ends up teleporting to me again and dies horribly in a lava lake.

Perhaps I'll embark on another caving expedition and play on Hard to see how well I fare.

Zyrandar, weren't you going to do a Hall of Shame or something for all your deaths? I have a graveyard. *Raises hand. Haha.

Kitty! Yay! Haha.

You're the one with the graveyard. Gotcha! Going to copy because it's just a great idea lol. A Hall of Shame sounds neat too. Poor Zyrandar, always dying in the DRaAaPD.

I love how the village thing looks under those cliffs! All the wool makes it look really happy and busy. I especially like the pathway going around the giant stone pillar.

Yep, I have a graveyard. Haha. And thanks! And yeah... Ooh! Have you fixed the halfslabs on the roof yet? That's bothering me. Haha.

Just for that, maybe I'll keep the roof like that so when you download the world you have to look at it! Muahahaha!

But no, I actually haven't done any more work with the schoolhouse. I started worrying about the Nether. My Portal area was secure but it was ugly! So I made a little temple/shrine thing.

I've never made anything more complex than a cobble wall to protect my portal so this was quite the challenge. The Ghasts were relentless!

I don't know if I'm completely happy with it but it's better than before.  Next task is a rail line. I'm tired of huffing it all the way there and back.

Nice... Twenty times better than my one. I really like the use of Nether Bricks/Stone Bricks/Obsidian and Fire. It looks awesome!

I'll just fix it the half slab roof. =P Haha.

And I agree with Wartower, that is very nice. I don't even protect my portals... I like the checkered floor. Do you have your head hung whilst watching a dimilit figurine? (Obscure song reference; I should probably stop with those. Haha.)

EDIT: Not only did I miss the spacebar, I managed to put an i where the space should be in dim lit. Ha!

interesting lyrics. Pretty sure that "dimlit" isn't a word :P

Fix'd. =P Sorta. Haha. That's not the exact wording of the song, of course; he sings, "head hung but still watching a dim lit figurine."

I love that portal fortress. It really looks like an evil castle! I especially love those nether-brick pillars.
