Thanks guys! I'm not done with the outside part of it yet but it's getting there. Will some point built a village in the area. There is a big open flat space nearby that would work nicely.

What obscure song is that, Gilbert? O: Go ahead and fix my roof. I hope you fall to your death trying to do that.

I built a little rail station linked to the temple stairs. The inside is pretty much done, just need to add a proper roof and make the outside look better.
2012-06-19_001627.png

For the most part, my rail line will be pretty basic and not very pretty. I think it'll be easier to make it look nice after it's finished. Also, I thought about figuring out the most straight way to get from the portal to the Nether Fortress but it's too dangerous. It may take more resources but I feel much safer using the tunnels I already established along the way.

I want to finish the rail before the twentieth but I'm getting so tired of the Nether lol. I miss big open blue skies and the pig that lives on my butcher shop roof---did I show you guys that yet? I didn't did I?

Meet, um, Pig-Who-Stands-On-Roofs. He's been up there for a while. I hope that he remains up there once I finish the shop.

That pig is crafty. That's how he has stayed alive all this time. The butcher is old so he cant climb up to the roof. also, seeing your nether fortress makes me want to do some serious constructions around mine. All I have standing between me and ghasts is a small wall made of stone brick and iron bars.

That must be it! It's the pig that escaped slaughter.

My Nether Temple isn't totally ghast proof since my portal acts as the doorway to outside too. But everything but the netherack is blast proof and if a ghast hits my portal, I make sure to keep a flint and steel around so it's no biggie.

If you do some building around your portal, please be careful! Seems that ghasts are attracted to construction sites...:(

This reminds me of VintageBeefs chicken at the entrance to his inn. I like it!

You're going to put a village in the Nether? How neat!

That song's "Checkered Floor" (which is why I was reminded of it, haha) by Silversun Pickups. Well, I hope that crafty pig kills you, daydrifter. *Humph.

That rail station looks really nice. I like the contrast between the stone brick and nether stuff.

Excellent Nether Base you have there! "Pig-Who-Stands-On-Roof" - that's almost poetic :)

I wouldn't be surprised if lightning strikes the pig and it turns into a zombie pigman...which I then accidentally hit and get murdered by, since I'll be building and won't have a weapon on my hotbar. XP

Beef had a chicken at his Inn? XP I just recently started watching his videos so I missed that. I'm a late comer to everything, it seems.

Yup, a Nether village. A village in every biome is one of my goals. As you can see, it's taking me a long time just to complete one village but I'm thinking that the other ones will be smaller. I hope to make each one have its own style. The ocean village will be fun!

That would be so wonderful. I mean, uhm, you should keep a weapon in your hotbar. Or something. Haha.

You may have mentioned the village thing before. The ocean village idea sounds crazy awesome!

Yeah, but it comes around only awhile into the series. Great dude, that VB. Do you watch other Mindcrackers, apart from Z and VB?

A village in every biome sounds intriguing... Can't wait for the jungle village.

Ocean Village? ooooh! On top of the water - using stilts/"Waterworld" style? Or Underwater - glass dome/Atlantis style? Can't wait!! Just don't build the Nether Village out of wool. *nods*

I haven't thought too heavily about how to go about the other villages, since I'm afraid that if I do I'll want to work on them and neglect finishing Merris, my hometown. But, I think for the ocean village, it will be underwater, or at least most of it will be. (I LOVED Waterworld! Maybe it's kind of awful but it was awesome anyway?) Maybe make the houses look like giant sea shells. Perhaps the people that live underwater are aquatic in nature, not unlike mermaids...in order to prevent drowning I could set up air pockets here and there, and an occasional building that is water free. Hmmmm no I shouldn't think about it anymore, or else I'll never finish my first village!

Ha, no, I won't be using any wool in the Nether, even though I would love to. Ghast proof and fire proof materials only, I'm afraid.

Edit: Sorry Wartower, forgot to reply to everything you said. I also watch Doc, Pause and Kurt. Just started watching BDoubleO, too.

Yeah - best to finish of "Merris" first before starting any further projects or you may find you'll end up neglecting or even forgetting about it. You may even find you want want to finish it if you leave it alone for too long.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. If I don't force myself to stick with one thing I will get bored and leave it unfinished. I have a bad habit of doing that. Sharing my work with others helps keep me motivated, so that's good.

I love Carlton so much. Hahaha. Especially his taste in clothing. I've got to get me a sweater like that!

And the completed Merris is really going to be awesome; I can't wait to see it, either.

That was a good show back in the day, that Fresh Prince of Bel Air. XD

A little update.

I worked more on my schoolhouse. While fixing up my classroom, I kept hearing a zombie right above my head. I dug up to investigate and found him. Our confrontation didn't end well.
2012-06-22_020739.png

And to add insult to injury, I forgot to sleep in my bed after I moved it.

2012-06-22_020747.png

Crap. Good thing Merris is close. Should really build a little house around my spawn point.

After I got all my stuff back, I went back up and took a few screenshots.

The classroom:

2012-06-22_021352.png

The kitchen (very WIP):

2012-06-22_021408.png

2012-06-22_021403.png

The kitchen needs a lot more work than the classroom. For the classroom, I think all I need to add are a few little indoor plants and some paintings on the walls. Maybe put some things in the chest like paper, sticks, books, etc.

In addition to the classroom and kitchen, I may include a tiny bathroom with water that flows down into the little stream. Not very sanitary but I think it would provide a simple alternate exit instead of having to go up and down stairs all the time, or falling to my death.

I really like the look of that classroom! Suggestion for the bathroom- Iron blocks look like mirrors, and cauldrons with levers above them look like sinks.

I already make use of cauldron sinks but using iron blocks as mirror is news to me. Thanks for the suggestion!

I flipped the lever above one of your cauldrons to see if it did anything. It didn't. Haha.

17909?? That beats my high score by like six thousand! You died at that Blaze spawner, right, so that's only from like a week?

The classroom does look really cool. I like the chalkboard; it's a really nice touch! I guess the lack of a SMART board and projector makes it feel very old timey-esque. Or something. Haha.

I remember the days when we used to call them "Blackboards" that was before all that nonsense with saying a blackboard is racist. As if. I mean. Seriously? PC gone mad. When I was a kid, I had a Jamaican friend, a Vietnamese friend and an Indian friend amongst my white friends. No-one. and I mean NONE of my "coloured" friends had problems with the noun Blackboard. It's just silly. *ahem* my apologies. I'll get of my soapbox now.

Technically I have a greenboard rather than a blackboard (I call them blackboards and chalkboards interchangeably and racism didn't even occur to me lol...that's just ridiculous). I like the old timey stuff, and I looked at pictures of one room schoolhouses for ideas.

Yep, last time I died was during the blaze farm incident. I probably got all those points during mob grinding and slaughtering animals, so it doesn't really count. And pretty much nothing in my Merris has levers or buttons that do anything...oh wait, actually:
2012-06-22_175411.png

Not that it's necessary, but if you push the 'flush button' on the toilet, the trap door opens, and you can jump in to take the alternate exit. It's not a fancy drop, just literally a little waterfall that I may pretty up where you can see it outside. No one needs to know the water source xD.

Update on the kitchen:

2012-06-22_175421.png

I made the dining table bigger. Not sure if pistons would look better but, part of the floor is suspended over nothing so I don't really feel up to having to add stone and dirt underneath for redstone torches and all that...

I added some extra lighting and hid some of that with paintings. My last two steps for the school are to add supports to the balcony and perhaps part of the building on the outside so it doesn't look so weird and build the chimney for the kitchen furnace. After that's done, I want to focus on the vendor stalls, since they're already pretty much built, just need to be cleaned up and prettified a bit. One of them will be a little ice cream shop and it's going to be fun to make up quirky names for the specialty flavors they sell (like zombie flesh, mushroom and bacon)!

Our uni has a website connected to it called Blackboard. And I live in Florida: the state of political correctness. Ugh.

Is it possible to "pretty up" a sewage waterfall? Hahaha.

Ooh, I like your kitchen. Is there a lightswitch for those redstone lamps by any chance? Wait... Never mind. Haha. You wouldn't want hostile mobs spawning in there, so it would serve no purpose. Moving right along!

I think Dairy Queen has a bacon milkshake out right now. Sounds straight-up nasty. =P

I watched one of their videos once. Felt like I needed a quadruple bypass afterwards. I think it was the meatball one. I can't even remember what all they put in it, but it was crazy. And it actually sounded pretty good...

Thanks for the link, I don't think I could handle that food, I like to eat but DAYUM! Those guys are hilarious though! The bearded guy reminds me of, um, oh darn, what is that guy's name? He was in The Hangover (but I prefer his standup)...Zach Galifianakis. Thanks, Google!

I don't want mobs spawning in my schoolhouse, no thanks. XD

Update:

2012-06-23_222647.png

The butcher shop is finished! Sadly, while doing the landscaping, Pig-Who-Stands-On-Roofs randomly decided to jump down and take a tour of the town. I don't understand it at all. Weird buggy AI I guess.

Here he is on top of a fence post near the bridge over the stream:

2012-06-23_222613.png

Back to the butcher shop, here's the meat locker:

2012-06-23_222820.png

I tried to use redstone to simulate blood, but I don't know if I'll keep that. In a horror themed tp I'm sure it looks more like blood splatters.  There are hooks on the wall, and the chests will be full of meat. Right now I put some pink wool roughtly in the shape of meat in them until I go slaughtering again.

2012-06-23_140518.png

Mushroom Hut! Took four or five tries to get a mushroom to grow the size I wanted. Need mycelium so bad! The hut provides Merris with the best mushroom stew in town.

Finally decided on what all the vendor stalls sell, too. I won't show them since there's not much to show. Just signs. The green stall was already done when the downloads went up: Floria's Seeds. She sells wheat, melon and pumpkin right now. When 1.3 comes out, she'll update her list to include cocoa beans, too.

Pink: Dairy Pig Ice Cream. I have yet to add the rest of the signs listing flavors and such, or stocking the store, but it's there.

Magenta: Sweet Beats Records. For records, obviously. I only have one right now and that was found in a chest, so I'll have to go out in the desert and try to get some.

Red: Bargain Meats. This stall sells old meat from the butcher shop (zombie flesh) as well as skewered beef and chicken (not rotten).

Yellow: Merris Town Post Office. I originally wanted a nice sized building somewhere but in the end I think that a little stall is good enough. I haven't added any details at all but shelves for all the mail slots would be a good idea, I guess. Since I have a post office, I need to put mailboxes around the town, and in the other villages I build. Hmmm now I'm wondering if I could use Ender chests somehow? (in 1.3 of course)

Cyan: Pawn Stars. It's a pawn shop where you can buy, sell or trade items! I'll probably treat it as a junk shop and throw crap I don't want like mostly broken stone tools or armor or something.

I extended the brick flooring of the square and am working on several pathways and stairways to other things. One of the paths lead to this...

2012-06-23_140451.png

2012-06-23_140438.png

It's a crypt/catacombs of sorts. Hardly done but I think it'll be more fun to build more of it every time I die.  Might put in a secret chamber for rituals at some point.

One last thing:

Achievement get: Happy Ghast Screenshot!

Do you think a fishing rod could possibly get that pig back up there? I mean, that's its spot! It needs to be there!

The redstone is a nice touch for the blood. Never would've thought of that. Bargain Meats does not sound like a place I would want to eat at. Haha.

Catacombs give me the creeps. But I love happy ghasts! =D
