Hiya Guys and gals!

Out of curiousity - anyone tried "Fossils and Archaeology" mod?

Looks fun.

I might try it for a laugh :P

Also on the subject of mods: Any you recomend? I used to enjoy playing with mods around Beta 1.8 ish but haven't really since.

Is that the one that adds fossils and you can reanimate them with other certain items? Or am I thinking of a more involved mod?

If you're into new blocks, might I suggest the Glacier Ice mod. I tried it out for a while back at 1.1, and it was pretty cool. Basically introduces a new block that you can travel super fast on and be launched several blocks from. I think there's also a new biome, but I haven't looked at the page in the forums for so long, I can't remember. Haha.

Archaeology sounds fun.

I've been really interested in trying the Better Than Wolves mod after seeing some of the stuff you can do with it on DurandalofAegis' LP "Stop Mine and Roll." You can make windmills for one thing, that move and power stuff. Seems useful. I started getting excited about pottery, because I guess I'm just a sucker for anything that adds more aesthetics to the game.

The Extra Biomes mod adds a lot of, well, extra biomes, along with new blocks. I remember the marsh area was kind of neat, along with the red rock deserty areas.

Harvestcraft is my favorite mod, and the one that I use in my main world. Not only does it add a bunch of edible crops and tons of recipes, but you can smelt zombie flesh into leather, or turn it into jerky. Plus, I mean, going caving with ten pizzas on your hotbar is kind of awesome.

@t_gilbert - yeah that's the one!

@daydrifter = Yup - Better than wolves looks really cool and there's additional compatibility with "Buildcraft" which is another cool mod.
Extra Biomes looks really great too. I'll have to try that out.
I'll look into that Harvestcraft mod too - sounds interesting. Pizza? Hmmmmm yes please!

Ahhh. I've seen a YouTube video on the archaeology mod and it looks really sweet! Never tried it, though. Haha.

Extra Biomes? I've heard of that but never looked into it. May have to! I've tried the More World Types mod before, and it was amazing, so seeing more biomes in a single world sounds even more amazing.

I'm going to try both Extra Biomes and the fossils mod - although I don't know if they're compatible or not. If I like the mods - i may may a vid or two.

I hope those two do work together for you. It sounds like a great combination.

They do work together but you have to mess around with Block ID's etc. The Extra Biomes are magnificent and produce some truly epic landscape. Makes me want to just explore and explore and explore and ex................. The fossil mod... erm ... I'm not sure about that .. yet... kinda interesting... i need to "get into it" a bit more i think... but i might try out some of the mods i used to play with back in 1.8.3 - they've changed a lot since then and I'm curious to see them again.

How did you mess with the Block IDs, Zyrandar? I've tried opening up class files in mod folders to no avail. Is it a certain program? And yeah... The fossil mod looked really awesome when I watched the video! Buuut, he already had all the items and junk, so I could see how it would be interesting. Haha. Do you have all the crafting recipes for the weird machines, yet? Seems like that'd be one of the more difficult parts. Or are you still finding the fossils? Haha.

Off-topic, but still on-topic, thinking about using this mod (mainly the Walled City and CARuins mod; might try the Great Wall one, but it looks a little much) for the Hardcore playthrough (when Minecraft is updated, and if the creator updates this) along with Rei's Minimap and the spider mod. Any thoughts? Is it too much? Should I include more of the same thing? I'll be exploring in the playthrough, not settling anywhere except at night, if that can help anyone think. Haha.

Anyone here tried the clay soldiers mod? it lets you make teams of clay soldiers that fight other colors. You can give them different items to improve their fighting power too. You can give them sticks to use as swords and leather to make armor out of. I have never been able to install it but it looks really awesome.

Never have tried that mod, but I did see it on YouTube (just realized how much time I spent watching videos last semester...) Anywho, it does look awesome. Almost like a game within a game.

I've never tried Clay Soldiers mod, but it looks a lot of fun :)
Milliniere [or whatever it's called] is interesting and should be a foundation for default vanilla NPC AI - however it does lag the game a lot and sometimes you have to walk miles to find a village :(

Yeah, I've thought about the Millenaire mod, but the last time I used it, like you said, I could never find a village. Haha. Even on Superflat, there were none to be found.

Lol really guys? The first and only time I tried Millenaire I spawned right next to a Japanese village. It lagged a lot for me, too, so much that it was too annoying to play on. It did seem neat though, but I didn't really know what to do since the Wiki for it is very outdated and had no info on Japanese villages at all. Formivore's mods look like something I would enjoy. They look so awesome!

The clay soldiers mod sounds neat but, seems like it'd be more fun in Multiplayer.

I was reading up on TerraFirmaCraft yesterday. It sounds like a lot of work but the realistic aspect of it is really interesting to me.

All you have to do is learn Java... and how to edit classes correctly and all that stuff so you don't break Minecraft. Haha. Hopefully when I get my BS in CS, I'll be able to mod in my free time. (I just like saying BS in CS. Haha.)

lol :P Do you have any ideas for a mod? Most of my ideas involve adding new blocks/new mobs = so that would obviously involve world generation and all that malarky :)

Not really other than adding new blocks and mobs. Those are always some of the most interesting mods, and often the easiest to think of, I suppose. Haha. Ramps would be cool, so you could actually sprint upwards, but that would be a new block. Haha. Ummm... A GUI interface that asks you what size painting you want on the wall when you go to put it up would be a really awesome mod!

The one who dislikes swearing making a joke about "BS." Hmmmm. lol

Yeah I think most of the ideas I would like are already available in various mods.

But hm, I would love a single mod that adds a ton of aesthetic things. Lots more plants that don't even do anything but look nice, both flowers and various types of shrubs and leafy plants, more types of trees (smaller trees with trunks about as thin as fence, flowering trees and willows would be much appreciated), vases and pots for the plants, more variety for doors (several kinds of wood ones and a glass one), more paintings and Gilbert's idea for being able to pick at least the size of the painting, carpet, glass that has transparency and can be dyed into stained glass, more light varieties like torches in addition to lanterns that attach the same way, or can be placed on the bottom of fence or blocks, more types of fence like fancy wrought iron and picket fences or privacy fences, the ability to paint anything made out of wood in different colors, more dye colors (cream and more shades of brown would at least be nice) and of course more blocks to build with. Varieties of cobblestone, sandstone, limestone, brick, concrete, marble, stairs and slabs of all blocks (glass, gold, iron etc too).

That's like, a really long sentence. Oh well. Hmmmm thinking now....

For the paint, you mix together dyes or plant bits and water, and put it in a bucket. Maybe you need to craft a paint brush and the bucket is set down kind of like a cauldron? You can 'load' the brush by clicking on the paint bucket with the brush and it can be used for a small number of strokes before you need to dip it in the bucket again. One click on an object completely colors it, so say you want to paint your front door red, you just click and bam, the plain wood door is now red. The paint bucket, after so many uses, empties, and once it's empty you can add more paint or pick it back up. Could probably pick it up at any point, no matter how full it is, and the paint will still be in there. I guess another option would be to just have it so you just use the bucket, or just have everything be dyes but I dunno, I like the idea of actually having to 'paint' stuff. Perhaps I'm making it more complicated than it has to be, though.

There's my mod. Get on that, Gil. :D

ooooh - the "stained glass" mod idea is superb!!! I vote for that!!!
I too would prefer more variety in dyes - 16 isn't enough !!!! :D
And yeah, being able to "paint" anything wooden is great too.
And did someone mention carpets? Excellent idea... most peeps put Wool into the floor - but an actual carpet would be much better.
And T ---- Choose the size of the painting? YES PLEASE!!

There is at least one mod with stained glass out there. Most of my ideas already exist but I want all that rolled into one, and with really nice textures that can work with default.

I just like the repetition of the sounds in BS in CS. =P Haha.

And hmmmm. A painting mod. That shouldn't be too hard in theory. All the dyes are already there, colors are there, it's just a matter of changing the color of whatever you want. Haha. You'll either need to put some sort of skin over the object or have a new .png file with all the new colored objects. Sounds very interesting. I'll get on that!... in a few years. Hahaha.

You know that's gonna happen. Too perfect. Haha.

@Zyrandar - I know, right?? Haha. It would save me from standing in front of a wall spamming my mouse buttons. Haha.

I had an idea, guys. It's nothing awesome. Just. You know the randomobs mod? I think it's part of Optifine. Well, it would be nice to have a mod like that, but for everything in the terrain.png file. At least the flowers, logs, stone, etc. It would not actually add anything to the game but more variety in appearance for those things. True, it would be weird to get red dye from a blue flower but for aesthetic purposes, it would be nice to have various types of flowers.

And we could have stone in different colors and textures. Marble for one. Lily pads....some could have flowers on them, some could be bigger or smaller. Grass could be different shapes and sizes. Randomterrain? Randomblocks?

Yes! More random stuff would be awesome. Especially the little things like flowers and lily pads, like you said.

It would definitely spice up the landscape!

I really, really want to play a world with TerraFirma Craft but after trying it out, I find it lags me way too bad. A bit bummed about that, but that's what I get for trying to play pc games on a laptop. *le sigh* I don't have any pics, but the brief time I played it, I failed to make charcoal, failed to make wheat with bonemeal and one of the trees I tried to cut down completely disappeared. I think it must have been a fruit tree, but it was brown and looked dead, so I assume I started off in winter or fall (there are seasons in TFC too! neat!)

A lot of the various stone textures are very nice. There's marble, Zyrandar. Marble! Looks like all the stone varieties come in smooth, cobble and brick forms. There's a very nice looking off white brick. Might have been limestone. I really love it. It might be fun to build with TFC in Creative but the lag. Ugh. I may try again, maybe there was something running that I wasn't aware of. It didn't lag the very first time I tried it, just the second time.
