I'm just going to leave TerraFirma Craft to you guys. It looks a little too much for me to handle. Haha.

It is a looot harder. I barely survived my first night. Not used to having to work so hard just to eat. You can't make swords and flint tools are a joke, plus you can only cook one thing at a time. I was afraid of cave ins too so I stayed above ground and was attacked by monsters quite a lot. A zombie knocked me off my hill and I almost died due to fall damage.

Still though, I want to collect all the things. I want to try it again! I'm going to cross my fingers that the lag was due to something stupid updating without my knowledge. Hey if I can get the spiders mod to work with it...hmmmm. More reasons to die!

You can't make swords?? Screw that. Haha.

But seriously, I can't live without my swords. What weapons are there, or are there any? And cave-ins?? That mod doesn't sound fun at all. Haha.

You can't make stone swords that's all. At least I dont' think? You can make lots of awesome swords in various metals and alloys, it just requires a lot more effort. You have to heat metals to the right temperature, then work them on an anvil, you can weld ingots together, you have to have a 'plan' sort of like a blueprint to even make the tools, etc.

Blocks are all affected by gravity the way sand or gravel are, so that's something to be very careful of.

Oh, I think I've seen something similar to the sword thing before. Actually sounds really awesome, to me. Haha. Did you find out if it lags your computer, or have you had time for that? Cause if it lags yours, it'll probably lag mine. Haha.

Just tried it out again. Yeah, even with turning everything on Fast or Off with Optifine, setting visibility to Tiny and pressing ESC to let the world load, it's just really laggy, sometimes to the point that you can barely move. :/ It seems to be at its worst by trees. Since trees are kind of a big deal, lol, that makes the mod unplayable.

I must have gotten lucky the first time. Darn. Welp, maybe I should look into getting a better computer for my Minecraft addition needs. xD

Well this sucks. You could get some more RAM. *Shrug. I've thought about this for my laptop if I can't ever get the money for the PC build. Haha.

More RAM? Hmmm. I think I'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion! I know someone who used to build computers, so he may be able to help me with that. I'm afraid to go inside my laptop's innards myself.

Yeahh, laptops are kinda intimidating, for me anyways. You have all those tiny parts that fit just right and junk. Desktops are so spacious and luxuriously large. Haha. Hopefully he can help you out! Putting in more RAM is a good first project to kinda get your feet wet!

Long time ago, I did put in a new CD drive on a desktop, but it was spacious, like you said, and it came with easy directions and didn't require any real knowledge. :P No problem. But the teeny tiny laptop, yikes.

I think when I get the RAM, I'll have the laptop blown out, too.

The Better Than Wolves mod is really starting to look good. I think I'll try that one out, see if the spiders mod works with it, and see how things go.

Edit: The two mods work together, as I thought they would, yay! I'm too involved in my AMCWAS world but should I want to take a break from it, I'll be playing on another world with BTW and More Spiders. Yikes, there are GIANT spiders and forest spiders and these weird black spiders that are bugged and don't move. It's strange getting blocks like logs or glowstone from spiders but kind of nice, too.

It's much more fun to read "I think when I get the RAM, I'll have the laptop blown up, too" than the original. Hahaha.

I am verryyy surprised the spiders mod actually works with Better than Wolves! How neat! And yes, when I tried out the spiders mod a few weeks ago, it was pretty buggy. Haha. Everytime I killed a weather spider, my game crashed. It was like they were holy or something. o.O

Lol! You know what I did with my old laptop, when it finally ceased to function? I took it outside and smashed it to bits with a mallet, Office Space style. So blowing it up if it misbehaves me isn't too far from what I would actually do, when it finally craps out on me. I hope that's not for like, five years though. *crosses fingers*

Yikes, I didn't know the spiders mod was that unstable. And...I think the two mods together is too much for my laptop to handle. It was fine in Creative, in superflat and in regular terrain. Survival though...nope. I'm starting to get worried that my laptop doesn't want to run any mods that add new blocks or mobs. I'm going to load up my old set of mods I used to play on a lot, see how that lags me. If it does lag me bad, something is not right here. Because I could run Harvestcraft just fine before...hmmm.

Oh, to keep more on topic, I was looking for aesthetic mods on the forums, and found a mod called Custom Blocks. It adds five each of a solid block, fence, stairs, slabs and glass like blocks. The textures are blank, and you add the textures yourself! I don't think there's a way to craft the blocks, you have to ask the modder to put that in for you in a personal version, but it looks kind of neat! If I try it, I might make several more brick varieties, a cream or tan colored wool, more window designs, smooth stone stairs, white fence, hm. I hope the modder adds more.

I haven't found a mod that lets you dye things sort of like my paint idea yet. I thought there was something like that around, but it must be outdated and forgotten.

Hmm. That's one thing that I've always wanted to do, but I don't think I could since I like salvaging computer parts. Haha. I could possibly take mine apart and smash each individual item once I was sure it wasn't working or something. Haha.

Yeah, it is right now. And I haven't seen the creator around the forums in a while, so I dunno if he's fixing it or anything. Haha. But I've gotten used to not having it, now, so if it doesn't back out, it'll be k. Harvestcraft is the one that adds seasons, new food, and new plants, correct?

Just checked out Custom Blocks. Looks. Awesome. And speaking of more aesthetic stuff, I found on the forums yesterday a petition-type thread to get colored glass put in. Looks really cool! Not a mod, though, unless someone sees it and goes "Dude! I'ma make a mod!"

Colored glass would be nice. Or at least make the glass have a transparency like ice. I'd be happy with that. Or is translucency a better word? Hm.

Ah, edited to add that Pam, the maker of Harvestcraft, has a lot of other mods too. I never really looked much at them because some of the features are being added to Harvestcraft, but look at Earthcraft: colored glass and fancy stones! I may install this, too.

Harvestcraft doesn't have seasons (that would be a nice addition) but yeah, it does add lots of extra foods and plants. I think I may start a new world with it and share my progress, or maybe continue on my old HC world and show some screenshots.

I downloaded the latest version of it and I'm not seeing any of the crazy lag like with TFC or BTW. I think those mods just have way too much extra stuff that my laptop hates. :( Oh well. Maybe when I get more RAM it will improve. It can't hurt, right?

You mean less see-through? Haha. I suppose that would be cool. I just want colored glass, though.

Ahhhh! I would love Earthcraft! Too bad I've always had really, really bad luck with getting Forge to work. =/ Maybe someday.

I must be thinking of something else, then, because I specifically remember mod adding seasons, new food, new plants, and I think new weather. Maybe I was just going mod-video-YouTube happy one day and mashed a bunch of them together in my mind. Haha.

Yeah, getting more RAM definitely can't hurt. Unless of course, you get the wrong kind of RAM and forcefully shove it into position and break your laptop. Then it can hurt... Haha. But yes, RAM should fix most of your problem.

Forge can be tricky. I seem to be having much more luck with the newest build, though. I have to play around with the order I install mods in, too. I hate forge but it's the only way to get Harvestcraft and that's my favorite mod. :P

I'm playing around with that Custom Blocks Mod. I added in stairs, fences and slabs of all the plank colors until 1.3 comes out, but sadly, at the moment the mod doesn't let you put slabs or stairs upside down.

I made white wood too (just recolored the regular plank texture, nothing special) and so I finally have pretty white fencing, yay!

Working on a marble block but it's hard getting it to tile nicely. Right now a wall of marble creates this weird scale like pattern that I'm not happy with at all.

Maybe I'll get Forge later on when I get more RAM or a new computer to actually run some of the stuff that requires Forge. Haha. And I forgot about Earthcraft until just now, so I'ma have to say that in every post to keep it my mind so I won't forget it. I'll put it in my sig!
Ahh, boo. Think that's a bug with the mod or have they just not gotten to that point with it, yet?
I like the look of the marble in the Technic pack (I think it's the Technic Pack). It's very simple with only a little shading and a few dots, I think. Might wanna check it out!

Ooh, perhaps I will. Might save me some work. Trying to make a little square look like something is hard. I'm used to thousands of pixels or paper and a pencil.

Looks like the modder already added more to his poll about if he should make slabs and stairs go upside down, so I assume it's something that wasn't coded in yet.

Which is why it always amazes me how some TP artists can do these realistic TPs in standard 16x. Crazy!

Well then vote yes on that beast and hope that he does it! =D

Found Magiz Mod today. Looked pretty awesome; it adds a wand thing that you can "enchant" with different materials. One example is is you enchant with TNT, you can explode junk. Was gonna try it out, but the only way to make it work is putting it in the bin folder. =/

There are some crazy awesome pixel artists in the Minecraft Community, that's for sure. Look at our Wartower here. :3 Being all awesome with his squareception.

I want a splody wand of boom! Must try that out, thanks for finding it!

True dat! By the way, Wartower, I put trees on Fancy the other day just to see what they looked like. The awesome left me speechless. If it didn't lag my 'puter, I would definitely keep it on Fancy!

No problem... Well, one problem. Haha. It adds NPCs, which is why I'm not adding it to my bin since I don't want it messing with my AMCWAS. If it only added new items, I would obviously just not craft any/stay away from them, but the NPCs made me wary of trying it out. Hopefully, with a new update, they'll allow support for putting it directly in the mods folder of .minecraft.

Speaking of all this, anyone know of any mods that add a magical wand that can do junk but that you can stay away from if you don't want it? I thought I saw ChimneySwift11 do a video on one once, so I'll try to look for it. (Yes, I did just kinda answer myself. Haha.)

Edit: Now I really am answering myself. Haha. It's called WizardCraft, can be put in you mods folder and .minecraft folder, so no need to change the bin. It also doesn't add any new mobs or blocks that you don't put in the game yourself through your actions, so it's cool to use with AMCWAS (though it does have a manna bar that can get in the way, so I'll taking it out for screenshots, haha).

Basically, you control the elements.

2012-07-07_134111.png

As you can see, you can do some pretty crazy junk. I made a lavafall, threw some water in there, and then froze the water to make this monstrosity.

2012-07-07_134150.png

Might as well throw in a lightning strike while we're at it. Hahaha. Why not?

2012-07-07_134327.png

Each staff has three levels. Seen here is two levels of the lightning staff: some sort of shield and calling down lightning.

Mod's really user-friendly with only two more keys to press (and you can press these at your convenience). And there's a staff that you can 'splode stuff with. Haha.

About to test this out in my survival test world!

What in the world did you do! lol That's a nifty mod. Ah, so I see, you are looking for mods that won't affect your AMCWAS world. I get it. I just switch out jars a lot. I"m sure there's a more efficient way but my way doesn't take that long.

I killed world! =D

I've tried switching out jars, but it was too much hassle. Haha. Hopefully with the API modding thing coming out in 1.4, it'll be a bit easier to do some of the stuff.

I know, I hate to bump a topic that withered away, but Mods are still relevant so why not continue this thread? We still like mods, so no reason to kill this one only to make a new one with the same sort of content in it.

First off, Gilbert, I'd like to let you know that Pam, the maker of Earthcraft and Harvestcraft, is going to be rolling most of her mods (except her mini ones) into one. However, I'm not sure how long we're going to have to wait, as she seems to be having issues with the new way the code is, or something. Oh and since everything is being put together, Pam is going to have configurable files so we can control what we do and do not want. I don't know how to do that but I'm sure there are good tuts online. I'm not fond of the colored stone naturally generating in the world so that's probably what I'll be tweaking with. Love the crops and flowers though.

Um, other mods. You guys with your symmetrical texture packs will not care much but I can't stop oohing and aahing over Connected Textures and Natural Textures. There is a subtle difference in Default with Natural Textures. In dirt, sand and grass I've noticed so far. I think you have to have textures that support that mod, or something.

But connected textures mod is getting more attention from texture pack artists now. SMP released this really cool sci-fi pack that would be fun to play with in a world with that theme. MC Patcher is the only way to get full CTM support, so sadly if I were to try this pack as it is intended, I'd have to switch out jars so I don't have Optifine. Ugh. Hopefully there will be a way to get both to work together. I guess there used to be a way but not with the current most versions.

Found this other mod that improves on trap doors and fences a bit. You can link wood and nether brick fences with it, and fences don't connect to dirt blocks. Not sure if that applies to leaf blocks but it should. I hate trying to put shrubs by a fence and they connect, makes no sense. I may try this mod out, see if it improves my life.

Holy junk. I love that texture pack. I'll pick sci-fi over symmetry any day. Haha. Downloading!

It is amazing! Biome transitions are kinda odd, especially since the water color changes, but it's still really awesome. Only using OptiFine, though, so with CTM, I'm assuming it would be even better. Now all we need is a decent lightsaber mod and some Star Wars skins.

Okay, so all of Pam's mods will be downloaded together and installed together, too? That sounds convenient. ^_^ If it's the type of configurable files that come to my mind, they're really simple and easy-to-use, so it definitely won't be a problem, as long as you have Notepad.

Hahaha. Hopefully the new mod can improve your life. *Nods head.

Of course after I typed this, 1.3.2 came out so I don't know about mods other than Optifine now. Will have to wait.

Yes, Pam's mods should all be just one single mod. You need Forge and modloader for the 1.2.5 versions of her mods, so I assume it'll be the same in 1.3. I like that you can just toss her mods into the mods folder. Too bad you still need forge though.

All I need is Notepad? Good, I got that, and it's free.

Sweetness! I enjoy mod packs like that. They're so convenient. ^_^ But the Forge isn't convenient. Maybe I can get that when I finally get around to building dat computer. Ya know, I was going to do that Spring Break, but I bought a new guitar instead. Haha. Curse my interest in hobbies that require money!

I think all you'll need is Notepad. I did say "if it's the type of configurable files that come to my mind," so her's might be different. Haha. But if they are the same, all it is is changing keywords from something like "true" to "false."

Course, maybe I'm thinking of property files... Maybe they're the same thing... Maybe John Hammond was senile...
