The slime chunk finder was implemented back in either Minecraft 1.0 or possibly late Beta Minecraft. You've just never noticed, I guess, Zyrandar. Haha. And I wanna say it's in the same section that enables visibility of entities on the map, but it's been so long, I'm not entirely positive.
And yeah, mini-maps do make things a lot easier, especially if you have all the functions on, like I did when I used it. Haha.
My view on this is that I don't really care... Even though I "created" the rules, I've probably wanted to break them more times than the rest of you. If you want to use the Minimap, feel free. Really.
Rules are there for a reason. There's no specific rule on mini-maps.
And if you're going to continue to blatantly break the rules.. I want no part of the Project.
Sorry. I kind of sound like a grumpy old Englishman... but still. Rules keep us grounded... literally -- you know how much I hate it when you use SPC to fly around your world. My view on the project is this: Play the game legit: Texture packs are okay, any mod that doesn't add new blocks, new items or new monsters is okay. Any mod that allows you to do something that is impossible in Survival : i.e. FLY ... is NOT okay.
Got it. I just read all the posts above me, and found out that I had mis-read the posts. let me change my approach: Don't use mini-maps if you don't to. I'm going to, and I think we should consider it against the rules.
I personally choose not to use a minimap but I'm okay with others using it. I agree that extra stuff like entity radar shouldn't be used. It really is tempting lol, but I don't want to be tempted.
Um, as for updates, I didn't tackle that slime farm yet. I had a major attack of scatter brain and ended up finishing my little jungle house/ vacation home and then just did some building back at the little WIP village where my main home is located. I think I'm going to call it Merris. Kind of put together Merry and Ferris (as in ferris wheel). I gathered up a bunch of clay for all the fireplaces and chimneys I need for my village houses and worked on the farm house (the farmer who owns the barn needs somewhere to live right?)
I am currently hanging out at my zombie farm because I just can't wait for 1.3. It might come out the end of this month, it might take longer. Who knows? I want a nice new bow. My current one is almost gone and I want something cooler than Power 1. :P
Sorry for not really being active the past few days...or is it just like one day? I'm tired, can't think all that well. I've been working more lately and I'm left so exhausted and sore that even if I do play MC I'm too tired to go through screenshots and upload and type a lot and you get the point. Have tomorrow off, so should post some pictures at least, and get to work on that darned slime farm!
"Merris" Genius :D I love it! [My brother has a dog called "Merry" and another called "Pippin". I'm detecting a theme here, but I just can't quite put my finger on it (!) heehee] Um ... not to contradict you or anything... but Bows only drop from Skeletons, not Zombies. Anyhoo.. I'm kind of glad you've gone back to working on your jungle house and the WIP Village. A Slime Farm is great, but you really need to put a lot of effort into it, to get it to work correctly. And I'm guessing you're having more fun building the Village? Sorry to hear work has been intruding: my first job when I left school was really hard. Up and out the house at 6am, walk three miles to the Factory. Work from 8am till 5pm; really hard physical labour. Walk three miles back home. Arrive back home at 6pm. Now you know why my current job entails me staying at home! (Well, that and the fact I have a minor muscle-wasting disease and a bad heart!)
Um ... not to contradict you or anything... but Bows only drop from Skeletons, not Zombies.
Lol. I don't think that's what she meant. =)
Farmers do generally live in farm houses. Haha. Is the farm house super special compared to the other village houses?
Don't worry; I don't think anybody is waiting for 1.3 to enchant. Haha. Why wait when we can enchant now and just gain back the levels, right?? =D
Late night. Come home. Work sucks. I know. Did anybody leave roses by the stairs because, if they did, that would be awesome! Anyways, I hope work starts looking better for you!
I have a hard labor job and should really start looking into something better but oh well...
On topic!
Anyhow...um, yeah. I meant that I wanted to visit my zombie farm to get levels for enchanting a new bow. I ended up getting Punch II (took like over 40 levels...) which....I tried it out and I hated it. I like Power I bows better it seems. They kill skellies faster. So that was a waste. :(
I ended up enchanting another diamond pick axe because I want to make a really big open area underground where the slimes keep spawning and...I got another Silk Touch. Since I have three of them, I'm using one that has Efficiency on it. I have TONS of smooth stone which is nice. It's a lot faster than cooking cobble, and I'm making a lot of stone brick too. I'm still not exactly sure where the slimes spawn since I have to be a certain distance away. Haven't found another huge slime but a few medium sized ones have spawned here and there. I made 15 TNT and cleared out more area, but lighting up nearby caves is taking a long time. There are at least two ravines, a massive cave system and more abandoned mineshafts (with another damn cave spider spawner). The slime farm will probably be one of those goals that will take quite some time to accomplish, but that's fine.
How about a few pics?
Here's a creepy Enderman trying to catch my eye while exploring one of those ravines. I stayed in a two block high little niche while I killed him off. I do hope to find a Stronghold and go to the End someday so, I try to kill all the Endermen I see.
While running around in the desert in search of gunpowder, I encountered this:
This was the one time I wished I'd had a bane of arthropods sword on me...not that it mattered, since that creeper trailing behind promptly blew up most of my foes...and all of my armor but my chestplate. Nearly died that night.
Back to more peaceful matters, have a look at some of my buildings?
The beach house, my home away from home.
I wanted it to look like I have sliding glass doors.
Well, let's return home to Merris to take a look at what I've been up to.
The little tower attached to the back of my house:
I'm playing with the idea that my house is where the crazy resident wizard lives. The lower level of the tower is the potions lab while the upper level is currently empty. Might turn it into a little library.
Across the little river behind my house are a few more houses. I'm going to make some dock areas and plant boats there.
I have pretty much the same design for most of the houses by mine so I feel it's not necessary to show them, at least not yet.
Here's the farm house, a little up the hill from the barn.
You can see my giant tree off in the background. :)
And that's that! I think I'm going to focus primarily on Merris for a while. I'm tired of ravines and mining and monsters...
I've never been too impressed with the bow enchantments, except for Infinity and Flame. And I really like the sliding glass door idea. Never thought of that! Those houses are pretty cool. I especially like the ones across the river that are on that wooden platform. Very nice!
I'm really digging [get it? *groans*] the designs of your wool houses. The jungle hut on stilts is great too - I was thinking of doing something similar but in a Swamp Biome with Glowstone scattered in the water and Trees. The random shot of the Spider Jockey and Enderman was awesome. Usually if I see that many mobs, I run away! The last thing on my mind is taking Screenshots :P lol @t_gilbert. Blink182? I know they're a band.. but what? what, what, what? what?!? haha! I'm assuming you quoted one of their songs at some point, but I don't think I've ever heard one of their songs. And if I have, it was in a movie and I didn't take any notice, sorry! :)
"Late night. Come home. Work sucks. I know." is from "All The Small Things" by Blink-182. I thought everyone knew that song. =P Haha. And I agree with you about the picture thing. Running away is what I typically do, so kudos to you, daydrifter. Haha.
Ohhh I was gonna say, mentioning roses left by the stairs seemed so random! Not a Blink 182 fan, sorry. Ahhh, I do know that song though! I repeated the words several times and finally realized the tune it goes to. Now it's going to be stuck in my head! It's not a bad song so, I suppose I'll forgive you. XD
Thanks for the kind words, guys!
@Zyrandar sorry to hear you have health issues, but it's good you have a job that isn't physically demanding. Take care of yourself. :)
I love the look of glowstone in water. It makes a nice glowy effect and the light source is sort of hidden so it's not as ugly lol. I'm using glowstone in my fountain for Merris' town square. My Nether portal is the focus of the fountain, but I have yet to find a pleasing way to add flowing water.
This area is my town square, and as you can see, it's going to take a lot of stone brick. I nearly went through my entire supply of smooth stone and I still have a ways to go. I took a break from the town square after running out of stone and enchanted another pick...
Nice!!! I actually wanted plain old efficiency and unbreaking but this pick is awesome. I spent a little time in my branch mine gathering up more stone and came across a nice pocket of diamond ore.
I'm collecting redstone ore blocks with my Silk Touch pickaxe for use in...something. I don't know, but they're kind of neat looking and light up when you walk on them, so might use them in flooring somewhere.
After a little mining, I returned to the surface to work more on my town square. I'm still not doing well with my stash of smooth stone (even cooked up a bunch of cobble I had) so I think I'm going to start a stone quarry.
I'm really liking that Nether Portal design - it's great. Perhaps you should make a design in the Stone Brick Floor? Maybe add some wood and Redstone lamps to break up the greyness? Mind you, I'm hardly one to speak about using Stone Brick a lot - my Underground Base in my old world is 90% Stone Brick, lol :P I like glowstone in water too - it looks great! Although the actual glowstone texture isn't that great! :P You could (i think) use those Redstone Ore blocks to create a redstone signal..... walk over them and use them to open secret doors or ... something :)
Hurray for getting not bad songs stuck in people's heads and them forgiving you for it! =D And Zyrandar, are you saying you could have possibly heard it while wasted? Because that's kinda what it sounded like with the conscious comment. Hahaha.
Anywayyys, back on-topic. That is a really nice-looking Nether portal! And all you people with your fancy Fortune picks. =P Haha. Is the fountain going to be the center of the square? Because if it is, yeah, you're going to need a lot of stone brick. Haha.
@t_gilbert1 = wasted? you mean drunk or on drugs? lol ... you DO know about my health issues right? me drunk or on drugs would be a death sentence :( No. I meant I might have heard the song on TV or in a film or something but didn't take any notice of it; if I really like a piece of music/song I make an effort to find out what it's called; otherwise.. I'm like "Meh...." Sorry bro - I'm sure you think it's awesome, but if it isn't on my iPod... I've never heard it or I don't like it. Simples. @wartower9 = Efficiency IV? Meh. Try Efficiency V!!! Now that rocks. Yeah - you CAN get Efficiency V legit, but it's super rare and I read/heard somewhere that Mojang intend to nerf Efficiency V :/
@Zyrandar - I'm a college bro in a college town famous for Spring Break madness, so that's one of the first things that comes to mind when I hear someone say something like that. Sorry if I offended you, man.
Efficiency V?? I get ecstatic over Efficiency II and excited over Efficiency I. =P Haha.
No offense taken. Guess we really don't have that "college bro" mentality in the UK :P One problem with efficiency V is :: It can be a little too fast. If that makes sense. You can mine most blocks "Creative Mode" speed. Which can be annoying when you only want to break 1 block but you end up mining three instead. Yes, it's THAT fast :P
Don't worry, the stone brick is not going to be all there is. I added a ring of flowers around the fountain and put in extra glowstone and smooth stone slabs in a three wide ring around that.
A redstone secret door, eh? Hmmmmm that sounds fun, I'll have to put that in somewhere! Will put that on my to-do list, which seems to be getting bigger rather than smaller.
You've absolutely chosen a great spot to build. The balconies under the arch and around the cliff face are magnificent and the use of coloured wool certainly improves things. May I ask - those four coloured areas on the left in the 2nd picture = will you do something with them, like storage rooms or something? Or is it just for decoration?
Whoa, that fence tree is crazy awesome. Didn't even notice it until I read Wartower's post twice. Haha. And I really like the flowers and stone stuff around the portal. The square really turned out nicely.
I, too, am wondering what the four colored things in the wall are.
The little niches in the wall with the colored wool arches are going to be vendor stalls. Some will be little um, places to get street food perhaps. The shops that require more room, such as the blacksmith and the butcher shop, will have their own buildings, either on the ground floor or, if I run out of room, up on one of the upper levels.
I did some work on carving out a walkway to the level that's going to be above those four vendor stalls. The orange wool is the start of a shop or two but I think I may redo that, so ignore it lol. The little magenta house will turn into some sort of shop.
The pathway up into the mountain to get to the balcony:
I put paintings hiding jack-o-lanterns on the left, since there's too much hill in the way on that side for windows. The windows on the right overlook the town square.
Oh, and I added flowing water to the Nether statue thing, so it's a proper fountain now. I've tried different ways of adding water and so far this is the best looking one.
Oh, wow, those are awesome ideas! I'm really liking the busy-ness of the town square. And the fountain is nice, too! I was thinking you were going to put the water up on top of the portal frame, but that looks much better.
Here's an older picture of the portal, when I was first experimenting with ways to add flowing water:
I just didn't like it. It looked okay but it covered the entire thing and somehow made it seem too big for the space around it, at least to me. I wanted to show the nice shape of the portal statue so I scrapped this idea. It didn't break the portal, either, since it flows over the stone brick and doesn't touch the portal itself.
